Understanding Your Health Score

The SESS (Startup Evaluation Scoring System) is a 0 - 1000 composite score across 10 dimensions. Learn how it works and how to improve it.

What is the SESS score?

SESS stands for Startup Evaluation Scoring System. It evaluates your startup across 10 dimensions and produces a composite score from 0 to 1000. The score updates automatically when you add data to the platform.

The 10 dimensions are: Team, Market, Product, Traction, Business Model, Financial Health, Fundraising Readiness, Legal, Strategic Positioning, and Operations.

Where to find your score

Your composite score appears on the Dashboard as a widget in the top section. Click it to open the full Health Score page.

On the Health Score page (/dashboard/health-score), you will see a large score dial, a breakdown of all 10 dimensions as individual cards, a score history chart, and a list of red flags with improvement recommendations.

How the score is calculated

Each dimension pulls data from different parts of the platform. For example:

Team dimension: reads team size, co-founders, and role coverage from Company Brain

Traction dimension: reads MRR, customer count, and growth rate from Metrics Store

Fundraising Readiness: checks Data Room completeness, CRM pipeline, and Readiness Score

The score recalculates automatically when you save changes to any connected module. You can also trigger a manual recalculation from the Health Score page by clicking 'Recalculate now'.

Improving your score

Each dimension card on the Health Score page shows its individual score (0 - 100) and a list of specific actions you can take to improve it.

Focus on red flags first - these are items that significantly drag down your composite score. Common red flags include: missing financial data, incomplete Company Brain, no milestones set, or an empty Data Room.

As a general rule: the more complete and current your data is across all modules, the higher your score will be.
