Why this page exists

Servers share networks and reputations. One customer sending bulk mail gets everyone else's mail marked as spam, and one customer attacking somebody else gets our whole address range blocked.

So this page is not a formality. It is the short list of things that damage the other people on the same network, and the reason a service can be switched off.

    Never allowed

These end a service immediately, with no notice period, because the harm is happening while we talk about it.

    • Anything illegal where you are, where we are, or where the server is.
    • Material that sexually exploits children, in any form.
    • Attacking other computers: breaking in, scanning for weaknesses, flooding a network to knock it offline.
    • Hosting malicious software, or a page built to steal someone's login details.
    • Stolen data, stolen credit card numbers, or credentials that are not yours.
  2. 03

    Email and messaging

You can send mail from our servers. You cannot send mail to people who did not ask for it.

Practically, that means the list has to be yours, collected with permission, with a working unsubscribe link. Buying a list and loading it onto our server is the single fastest way to get a service suspended, and it damages every other customer on the same address range.

  3. 04

    Load and shared machines

On a shared plan you are one of many on the same machine, and one process that consumes everything makes the machine unusable for the rest.

We do not police normal growth. We do contact you if one site is holding the machine down, and we will help you move to a server of your own before we throttle anything.

On your own server the capacity is yours to use, up to the transfer figure on the plan.

  4. 05

    What you are responsible for

You are responsible for what is on your service, including anything your own users upload and anything a plugin or a script you installed does.

You are also responsible for keeping software you control updated. An out of date application that gets broken into and used to attack others is treated the same as an attack, because from the outside it is one.

  5. 06

    How reports reach us

Anyone can report abuse by writing to hello@upgradiq.com with the domain name or the internet address and enough detail to reproduce it.

We look at every report. We do not act on a report that is really a business dispute or a disagreement about opinion, and we say so rather than switching off a service because somebody asked us to.

  6. 07

    What suspension looks like

Suspension means the service stops answering and your data stays exactly where it is. Nothing is deleted at this step.

For anything except the never allowed list, we write to you first with what we found and a deadline to fix it, usually forty eight hours. For the never allowed list we switch off first and write immediately after.

A suspended service that is not resolved within thirty days is closed, and the data is deleted after the notice period on the terms page.

  7. 08

    Getting it turned back on

Reply to the suspension notice and tell us what you changed. If the problem is fixed, we switch the service back on, usually the same working day.

If you think we got it wrong, say so and give us the detail. We would rather reverse a wrong decision than defend it.

Billing

The terms every plan is sold on

One currency and four term lengths. The longer terms take a discount off the monthly rate, and every page on this site quotes the same four.

Monthly
Standard rate
3 months
Standard rate
6 months
5% off the monthly rate
12 months
10% off the monthly rate

A term renews for the same length at the rate published then, and a price change is announced at least thirty days before your renewal date. Switching renewal off stops the next charge and leaves the service running to the end of the term you paid for.

Supplier

Who you are dealing with

One registered company stands behind every plan on this site, and this is it. There is no reseller in the middle and no second entity on the invoice.

Questions

Ask before you agree, not after

A question about any of these documents is answered by a person, usually the same working day. Nothing here is too small to ask about.

  • Message the WhatsApp number and quote the document name.
  • Or write to the shared inbox and we reply in writing.
  • Ask us to explain a clause in your own words before you buy.
  • Ask what a clause means for your specific setup.
Changes

How a change reaches you

This page carries the date it was last changed, at the top and again here. If the date has not moved, nothing has.

A change that costs you money or narrows what you can do is announced at least thirty days before it applies, by email to the address on your account. A correction to wording that changes nothing is published without notice, with the date updated.

We keep no separate archive of old versions. If you need the wording that applied on a particular date, ask and we will send it.

Rather ask a person

Send the question. A clause explained in one message is faster than a page read three times.
