Why compare instead of just picking the highest?
Because the highest total can be the wrong build for you. One idea may win on demand while another wins on how fast you can ship it solo. The head-to-head shows the trade you are actually making.
Can I share a comparison?

Do you store what I compare?

Why only three at a time?

What if two ideas tie on a signal?
Both are marked as the highest, because they are. The tool never breaks a tie it cannot see a reason for, and a tie on one signal usually means the decision belongs to a different row.
